Pakistan Seeks U.S. Expertise in Agriculture Modernization, Ambassador Masood Khan Highlights Potential for Expanded Cooperation

Islamabad, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, emphasized Pakistan’s interest in acquiring U.S. expertise and technology to modernize its agriculture sector, focusing on hybrid seed development and climate-smart agriculture. Ambassador Khan discussed these aspirations during a meeting with California’s Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis in Los Angeles.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Ambassador underscored the longstanding cooperation between Pakistan and the United States in agriculture, suggesting that the partnership could extend into IT and energy sectors, particularly new energies and renewable energy. He mentioned the significant ties between Pakistani and American universities and the existing investments by Pakistani-American and American firms in Pakistan’s technology sector, emphasizing the scope for further cooperation.

During the meeting, Lt. Governor Kounalakis affirmed the United States’ readiness to support Pakistan, particularly in agriculture, and expressed interest in helping Pakistani film content reach broader audiences through platforms like Netflix, which would enhance cultural ties. The World Affairs Council of Orange County hosted a luncheon in honor of Ambassador Khan, where he addressed intellectuals and policy analysts, advocating for Pakistan as an economic bridge between the United States and China.

Ambassador Khan also highlighted the importance of enhancing understanding and removing misperceptions between the two countries through robust exchanges involving students, academics, lawmakers, and business communities. He reflected on the youthful demographic of Pakistan, with 64% of the population below the age of 30, and the country’s focus on education and skills development.

Further, he spoke about the significant Pakistani American community in California and the historical cooperation between the two nations in various sectors. The Ambassador noted that Pakistan’s tech exports to the United States had reached $1.4 billion last year, signifying a strengthening bond in the tech industry. He also detailed initiatives for women’s empowerment supported by the U.S. Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs and the U.S.-Pakistan Business Council, which aim to enhance Pakistan’s higher education system with a significant financial commitment.

Ambassador Khan’s visit also included tours at SpaceX Headquarters and the Starlink facility in California, where he lauded the innovative spirit and technological advancements observed.
