New York, In a significant diplomatic victory, Pakistan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2025-2026 term. Garnering an overwhelming majority of the votes, Pakistan’s election highlights its respected status and commitment to global peace and security initiatives.
According to Pakistan Mission to United Nations, Pakistan received 182 out of 185 votes during the election at the UN General Assembly. Ambassador Munir Akram expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and the officers of the Pakistan Mission for their efforts in the successful campaign. He also thanked the UN membership for their trust in Pakistan’s ability to contribute effectively to the UNSC’s objectives.
Ambassador Akram outlined Pakistan’s focus for its term on the Security Council, emphasizing peaceful dispute resolution, addressing threats to international peace and security, and promoting enhanced cooperation among international community members. He stressed Pakistan’s longstanding policy towards war prevention, peace promotion, and global prosperity since its independence in 1947. With this mandate, Pakistan aims to enhance the role and influence of elected members of the Security Council and advocate for greater democracy, transparency, and accountability within the Council’s decisions and deliberations.
