Pakistan’s Government Implements Economic Reforms and Judicial Changes

Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced a series of government initiatives aimed at economic reform and improved judicial handling of narcotics cases, emphasizing the positive trajectory of Pakistan’s economy due to current policies.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a Federal Cabinet meeting held in Islamabad, Prime Minister Sharif detailed the government’s success in elevating IT exports to record highs, boosting foreign remittances, and expanding overall exports, attributing these achievements to his administration’s efforts. He also noted a significant increase in foreign investment, particularly from Saudi Arabia, which is expected to bolster the Pakistani economy further.

The Prime Minister highlighted efforts to combat electricity theft and reduce energy prices as part of a broader economic strategy. He also criticized the Track and Trace System introduced in 2019 as fraudulent and promised stern action against those responsible for harming the national economy.

In a move to strengthen the judicial system in Balochistan, the Federal Cabinet approved the establishment of a special court in the Makran Division to expedite narcotics cases, covering districts such as Panjgur, Kech, Gwadar, Hub, and Lasbela. The Cabinet emphasized enhancing the prosecution process to improve judicial efficiency.

Additionally, the Cabinet extended the validity of Proof of Registration (POR) cards for Afghan refugees until June 30, enabling them to access essential services like schooling and banking while preparing for their repatriation under a phased program aimed at addressing the presence of illegal nationals.

The meeting also covered the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), with directives issued to ensure transparency in the process. Updates were given on improvements at major airports, including increased service counters and enhancements to overall facilities, reflecting ongoing efforts to upgrade Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure.

Lastly, the Cabinet reviewed the final stages of consultations on the use of drone technology in agriculture, indicating a focus on modernizing the sector to increase efficiency and productivity.
