Pakistan’s Brigadier Umrani Takes Temporary Command of UNISFA

Islamabad, Brigadier Ameer Muhammad Umrani of Pakistan has assumed temporary command of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), stepping into a critical role in the ongoing peace operations in the disputed region.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the announcement was made by Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson at the UN Headquarters in New York. This appointment underscores Pakistan’s significant contribution to UN peacekeeping efforts, where it stands as the fifth-largest contributor of military and police personnel globally.

Brigadier Umrani’s leadership comes at a crucial time for UNISFA, which plays an essential role in maintaining peace and security in the Abyei area, a key point of contention between Sudan and South Sudan.
