Pakistan’s Cement Industry Witnesses Decline in Sales During October

ISLAMABAD, The All-Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) reported a decline in cement sales for October 2023, according to recent news published in leading newspapers. The industry experienced a 5.78% decrease in total cement dispatches compared to the same month in the previous fiscal year, with figures dropping from 4.253 million tons in October 2022 to 4.007 million tons in October 2023.

According to Zameen.com, Local cement dispatches during October 2023 witnessed a significant drop of 15.38%, totaling 3.292 million tons, compared to 3.890 million tons in October 2022. However, cement exports from the country saw a substantial increase of 97.33%, rising from 362,350 tons in October 2022 to 715,028 tons in October 2023.

North-based cement mills dispatched 2.903 million tons in October 2023, an 11.35% decrease from the 3.275 million tons dispatched in October 2022. South-based mills, on the other hand, showed a 12.90% increase in dispatches, with volumes reaching 1.104 million tons in October 2023 compared to 0.978 million tons in the same month the previous year.

In the domestic market, dispatches from North-based mills decreased by 11.57% to 2.780 million tons, while South-based mills’ domestic dispatches fell by 31.41% to 512,320 tons. Export figures from North-based mills declined by 6.16%, and South-based mills experienced a 156.01% surge in exports.

For the first four months of the current fiscal year, total cement dispatches, including both domestic and export figures, reached 15.892 million tons, marking a 14.55% increase from the 13.874 million tons dispatched during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. Domestic dispatches during this period increased by 7.47% to 13.426 million tons, and exports surged by 78.53% to 2.466 million tons.

North-based mills reported a 6.83% increase in domestic dispatches and a 31.31% rise in exports during the first four months of the current fiscal year. South-based mills saw a 10.65% increase in domestic dispatches and a significant 99.1% increase in exports during the same period.

Overall, the total dispatches by North-based mills increased by 7.78%, and South-based mills reported a 38.54% increase during the first four months of the current financial year.
