Islamabad, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, convened a meeting today with leaders from the steel industry, including representatives from the Pakistan Association of Large Steel Producers (PALSP), Pakistan Steel Melters Association (PSMA), Pakistan Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association (PSRMA), and Pakistan Steel Pipelines Association (PSPA). The gathering aimed to discuss challenges and opportunities within the sector.
According to Ministry of Finance, the steel industry representatives expressed appreciation for the chance to voice their concerns directly to the government. They provided an overview of the industry’s current state and suggested potential strategies for enhancing growth. Key proposals included adjustments to tax and customs duties to foster a more favorable business environment and the integration of all producers and sellers into the tax net to promote fair competition.
Senator Aurangzeb reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local industries and emphasized ongoing efforts by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to expand the tax base, particularly focusing on under-taxed sectors. Both the Minister and the Chairman of the FBR assured the delegation of continued governmental support to address the specific needs of the steel industry through collaborative efforts.
The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude from the steel sector representatives, who welcomed the government’s supportive stance and cooperative approach.
