Pakistan’s Transgender Community Lives in Fear

Islamabad: In Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, violence against the transgender community is on the rise. They face extortion threats and physical violence, with at least 157 transgender individuals killed in the past decade.

According to Deutsche Welle, the transgender community in this region is increasingly vulnerable to targeted attacks. These individuals endure daily threats and a lack of protection, leading to a climate of fear and insecurity. Despite some legal protections, the enforcement remains weak, leaving the community exposed to violence and discrimination.

The rise in violence highlights the urgent need for effective measures to safeguard the rights and lives of transgender people in Pakistan. Advocacy groups continue to call for stronger legal action and societal change to address these pressing issues.
