Srinagar, June 21, 2023 (PPI-OT): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has termed the completion of five years of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir without an elected government as the fifth death anniversary of constitutionality, democracy and people’s rights. The PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, had resigned from the post of the puppet chief minister on June 19, 2018 after her ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew support to her government. The Narendra Modi-led BJP government in New Delhi had put IIOJK under Governor’s Rule and later following its unilateral illegal actions of August 05, 2019, has been controlling the occupied territory through Lieutenant Governor-led administration.
The PDP chief spokesperson, Suhail Bukhari, in an interview in Srinagar said, “We remember this as the fifth death anniversary of constitutionality, democracy and people’s rights in Jammu and Kashmir. Five years ago, they (Indian government) murdered democracy, morality, ethics and constitutionality in Jammu and Kashmir.” He said the BJP government muzzled the Kashmiri people and kept them devoid of their political, democratic and constitutional rights in these five years. He said corruption is at its peak in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The PDP leader said the people of Kashmir are being harassed and that they cannot express themselves. He maintained that just because people are not taking to the streets out of fear, as there is a massive crackdown and dissent has been criminalised, it does not necessarily mean that they do not have anything to say. He said constitutionality, democracy and people’s rights end right at the point where the territorial jurisdiction of Jammu and Kashmir starts. He added that the PDP will continue to politically, democratically and constitutionally fight for the dignity, identity and rights of the people of Kashmir.
