Peshawar, In a significant move to bolster women’s rights and development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Advisor to the Chief Minister on Social Welfare and Women’s Development, Mashal Azam Yousafzai, announced the appointment of a new Chairperson for the KP Commission on Status of Women and the establishment of a 24/7 helpline for domestic violence prevention.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the announcement came during the 22nd Inter-Provincial Ministerial Group meeting, which included key figures like Chairperson National Commission on Status of Women Nilofar Bakhtiar and representatives from UN Women. The meeting discussed urgent issues such as gender discrimination, early marriage, and domestic violence, alongside solutions that involve legislative action and increased representation. Yousafzai emphasized the province’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women through enhanced opportunities and support mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with resolutions for more women’s representation in federal and provincial cabinets, establishment of separate ministries for women, and the urgent implementation of the Child Marriage Bill. These initiatives aim to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
