Jammu, Workers and daily wagers of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have reached the 708th day of their ongoing protest. The sit-in is held outside the Chief Engineer’s office on BC Road, demanding regularization, wage enhancements, and overdue payments.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest initiated on June 22, 2022, is centered around demands for the regularization of jobs and an increase in minimum wages in accordance with Indian government norms, along with the release of more than 78 months’ worth of back wages owed to daily wagers. Despite multiple discussions with senior officials within the department, the workers’ grievances remain unaddressed.
A significant number of PHE workers from various divisions across Jammu have gathered under the banner of the PHE United Front. They have been vocal in their protests, expressing their frustrations through slogans aimed at the IIOJK administration, the BJP, and other senior officials in the region.
Representatives of the employees have stated their determination to continue the protest until their demands are met and justice is delivered to the PHE workers.
