Plot to Assassinate Chinese Engineers in Pakistan Originated in Afghanistan, Claims DG ISPR

Islamabad, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Service Public Relations, announced that the recent plot to kill Chinese engineers in Besham was orchestrated in Afghanistan, during a news conference in Rawalpindi.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Major General Chaudhry disclosed that the suicide bomber was an Afghan national and the vehicle used in the attack was prepared in Afghanistan. Law enforcement has since arrested four key suspects involved in the plot. He emphasized that ensuring the security of the 29,000 Chinese nationals in Pakistan, including 2,500 working on CPEC-related projects and 5,500 on other development initiatives, remains a top priority for the government.

The DG ISPR stated that the attack was intended to undermine the Pakistan-China friendship and the CPEC project. He also highlighted that the Pakistani security forces have conducted over 13,000 intelligence-based operations against terrorists and their facilitators, averaging about 100 operations daily.

In addition to addressing threats from within, Major General Chaudhry spoke on external pressures, particularly from India, accusing it of planning disruptions to divert attention from its internal issues. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination and responded to various questions about the army’s role in recent elections, the Afghan Transit Trade, and the criticism of Pakistan’s relationship with Saudi Arabia.
