Prevailing situation in the region was not satisfactory: Provincial Minister for Information

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has warned that the prevailing situation in the region was not satisfactory rather the tense situation in Chitral, Dir and Bajaur Agency was indicating further deterioration in future. In such a situation, the role of media was manifold and it should play its role wisely and foresightedly, he added.

This he stated while talking to a representative 15 member delegation of Tank Press Club led by its president Awar Din Mehsood at Peshawar on Tuesday. Members of the delegation on this occasion while taking the minister for constructing a new building for the Tank Press Club, demanded media colony, provision of motorcycles on easy instalments and health insurance scheme for the journalists of the Tank district.

The Information Minister while referring to the demands and problems of the journalists community of Tank, said that Tank was a sensitive district and keeping in view its strategic importance, we were well aware of the problems of the local journalists adding that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government constructed a new building for the journalists of Tank in the first phase and it would be equipped with modern facilities. He assured that the government would construct media colony as per policy of the provincial government and the Information Department would approach the DCO for provision of state land for the purpose. Similarly, he will also announce grant for the Tank Press Club during his visit to Tank very soon.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain asked the members of press club to complete its membership before proper approval of the media colony and ensure the enrolment of real working journalists in it and the same list should be shared with the Information Department at the earliest.

He while taking immediate notice of the complaint of low standard of work in the new building of Tank Press Club, contacted the high ups of C and W Department and asked the journalists not to take the custody of the new building without their full satisfaction.

The Information Minister called upon the journalists to take care while discharging their professional obligations in the present situation as the terrorists were not spare anyone as and when they got the opportunity. He said that their reporting instead of provocation should be based on objectivity.
