Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of collective efforts, particularly by the youth, to drive Pakistan towards self-reliance and reduce national debt. In a meeting with young parliamentarians from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, he highlighted several positive economic indicators suggesting that the country is on the right path.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister detailed improvements in the policy rate and a decrease in inflation. He also noted increases in remittances from Pakistani expatriates and in agricultural exports. These factors collectively demonstrate a promising economic direction for Pakistan.
Sharif expressed hope that the upcoming IMF board meeting, scheduled for the 25th of this month, which aims to approve a new loan program, would be the last one needed for Pakistan. He acknowledged the support from nations like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and China in the IMF negotiations. Emphasizing the need for expanded tax collection and a halt to tax evasion, Sharif argued that financial independence is crucial for maintaining a dignified and honorable life.
He concluded by underscoring that the pursuit of loans and the continuation of old debts do not lead to a respectable existence. Instead, he called for dedicated collective action and hard work to elevate Pakistan’s standing on the international stage.
