Programmes held to memorise sopore martyrs

Srinagar, January 06, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, various programmes were held across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir to memorise the services of the martyrs of Sopore town on their martyrdom anniversary, today.

A peaceful march was led by Abdul Qadeer Dar was arranged by a local rights organization, Voice of Victims at the graveyard, despite heavy snowfall. The participants including Hurriyet leaders, traders and victim families carrying banners inscribed with pro-freedom slogans walked through the Iqbal Market, which was, aimed at eulogizing the sacrifices of the martyrs of the town. The speakers on the occasion demanded the United Nations and human rights organizations to conduct probe into the killings to book the culprits to justice.

A silent sit-in protest led by International Forum for Justice Chairman, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo was also held at martyrs’ graveyard in the town. Besides, Untoo, the protest was also attended by JKLF leader Sheikh Abdur Rashid and Hurriyet leaders Farooq Ahmad Towheedi, Ghulam Nabi Darzi, Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Dr Nisar-ul-Haq and members from traders and Bar associations. The speakers appealing the world community to take notice of the human rights violations reiterated to continue liberation struggle against all odds. They also praised the sacrifices of the people of the town.

In Muzaffarabad, a big protest demonstration was held, which was organized by IFJ and was participated by former AJK minister, Syed Murtaza Gilani, Shoukat Javed Mir, Altaf Hussain Wani, Abdul Hameed Lone, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Aasiya Rafiq, Tariq Mujtaba and members of Bar Association of Muzaffarabad including its president. The participants on the occasion urged the UN to play its role for resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
