Lahore, In a significant advancement for healthcare in Punjab, the Provincial Minister of Health and Emergency Services, Khawaja Salman Rafique, presided over the inauguration of the Provincial Stroke Management Center at the Services Institute of Medical Sciences Auditorium. The opening ceremony was attended by key figures in the healthcare and emergency services sectors, including Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of Emergency Services Punjab, and a host of other distinguished guests and faculty members.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the event highlighted the critical importance of the new center in addressing stroke care, which is noted for being particularly expensive. Minister Rafique expressed his enthusiasm for the project, underscoring it as a pivotal step at the governmental level towards enhancing stroke treatment in the province. He lauded the efforts of doctors and rescuers, describing them as a source of national pride and emphasized the urgency of improving medical facilities amid Pakistan’s challenging circumstances.
The Provincial Health Minister also announced that Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has allocated a substantial sum of 16 billion rupees towards the revamping of government hospitals. Rafique’s speech touched on the necessity of unity and collective effort to uplift the country, especially in light of the current war situation and the need to eschew divisive politics.
Further emphasizing the commitment to high standards within the health sector, Rafique stated a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of nepotism or corruption, advocating for merit and dedication in serving the public. He also acknowledged the remarkable contributions of Dr. Qasim Bashir in spearheading the Stroke Management Center project.
Adding to the event, Dr. Rizwan Naseer shared insights into the commendable achievements of the Emergency Services Department, which has successfully conducted rescues affecting over 1.5 million people and mitigated losses amounting to 650 billion rupees through prompt action during crises including the COVID-19 pandemic and floods.
The inauguration of the Provincial Stroke Management Center marks a leap forward in healthcare provision in Punjab, aiming to significantly impact stroke care availability and quality for the province’s population.
