Lahore: In a significant development for healthcare in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the first-ever “Chief Minister Dialysis Program Card,” substantially increasing funds for dialysis treatment to 10 lakh rupees per patient.
According to Chief Minister of Punjab, the initiative aims to allocate 850,000 rupees for dialysis and 150,000 rupees for tests for each kidney disease patient. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of continuing dialysis treatment regardless of financial constraints and instructed that free tests and medicines be ensured for these patients.
The directive came during a special meeting presided by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where it was agreed to establish more dialysis centers across Punjab. The Punjab Healthcare Commission has been tasked with ensuring the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at these centers, along with strict monitoring of their operations. The Chief Minister expressed concern over reports of AIDS cases among dialysis patients in Multan and demanded a report within 24 hours.
The meeting also highlighted that patients from other provinces, such as Sindh and Balochistan, are benefiting from Punjab’s free dialysis facilities. The session reviewed progress on health programs and projects, including the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital, and discussed setting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the health department. Reports on PIC 2 and the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology Sargodha projects were presented, with directives to equip them with state-of-the-art technology and ensure the latest training for specialist doctors. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Senator Pervaiz Rasheed and Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.
