Lahore, In a landmark move under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Police has significantly increased the number of women in its ranks, surpassing the previously set quotas for female recruitment. This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower women in the region, highlighting the administration’s commitment to gender equality in law enforcement.
According to Punjab Police, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar announced that over 1600 women have recently joined the force in various capacities, including lady constables, driver constables, and traffic assistants. Notably, this recruitment drive marked the first instance where women were hired as driver constables in the Punjab Police. Dr. Anwar emphasized that more than 60% of these positions were filled by women on open merit, reflecting the high standards and capabilities of the new recruits.
The IG Punjab also stressed that female officers and officials in the Punjab Police are provided equal opportunities for career advancement, making the police force an attractive career choice for educated young women. He affirmed that the inclusion of women in the police force is a priority, with plans to increase their numbers further in the coming years.
