Punjab’s Smart Plastic Vending Initiative Garners PCJCCI Acclaim as Climate Innovation

Lahore: The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has commended Punjab’s latest initiative, which introduces smart plastic vending machines as a climate-conscious venture that incentivizes plastic recycling. Nazir Hussain, President of PCJCCI, lauded the program, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, as a forward-thinking model of sustainable development. He emphasized its alignment with China’s green development goals, noting its potential to foster bilateral cooperation.

Hussain highlighted China’s leadership in smart waste management and green technology, suggesting that Chinese firms are well-suited to assist Punjab in technology transfer. The introduction of advanced AI-powered reverse vending machines, equipped with QR code scanners and IoT tracking, presents opportunities for investment and infrastructural development.

Brigadier Mansoor Saeed Sheikh (Retd), Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, noted the potential for Chinese investment in local production of vending machines and recycling plants, which could spur job creation and enhance trade in environmental technology. He indicated that PCJCCI could facilitate China’s support in establishing eco-industrial parks and refining recycling legislation.

Zafar Iqbal, Vice President of PCJCCI, explained that the vending machines allow citizens to exchange used plastic bottles for mobile credits, digital cash, or vouchers. This initiative not only reduces plastic waste but also creates micro-income opportunities, contributing to a circular economy strategy.

Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General of PCJCCI, expressed the organization’s commitment to promoting eco-industrial parks in Punjab. These zones, grounded in sustainability, transform waste from one process into resources for another. Hanif emphasized that China’s extensive experience in eco-city planning could provide crucial guidance and expertise.
