New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition Congress party, stated that the recent Lok Sabha election results reflect the Indian electorate’s rejection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a press conference held at the Congress headquarters during the vote count, Gandhi articulated a broad critique of the Modi administration’s approach to governance and its impact on the democratic process.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Gandhi described the elections as a battle against not only the ruling BJP but also the entire state apparatus, including secret agencies, the bureaucracy, and the quasi-judiciary. He highlighted the adversities faced by the opposition, including the incarceration of the Chief Minister of New Delhi, which he attributed to actions taken by the Modi government to suppress dissent.
Gandhi emphasized that the victory in the elections was achieved through the support of India’s farmers, workers, and economically weaker sections, who, he said, stood up to protect the Constitution of India. Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Ghadke characterized the election results as a triumph for democracy and a personal defeat for Modi.
Ghadke also noted that despite the favorable results, the Congress party’s struggle is far from over, expressing gratitude towards the public for their ongoing support and underscoring the need to continue the fight for democratic values.
