Rahul Gandhi Ordered to Appear in Ranchi Court Over Comments About Amit Shah

Ranchi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by a court in Ranchi, Jharkhand, to appear in person regarding his 2018 remarks against Indian Home Minister Amit Shah. The court’s directive requires Gandhi’s presence for a hearing scheduled on June 11.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the case was initiated by BJP leader Naveen Jha, who filed a complaint in the Ranchi court. Jha’s complaint pertains to Gandhi’s comments during a 2018 event where he described the BJP as a party “that can make ‘a murderer the national president’,” in reference to then party president Amit Shah.

The controversy led to Rahul Gandhi seeking legal relief from the Jharkhand High Court, which subsequently declined his plea. This led to the necessity for Gandhi to appear before the Ranchi MP/MLA court. It is noted that Gandhi’s membership in the parliament was previously suspended in 2019 following a conviction in a defamation case involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, though this was later suspended by the Supreme Court of India.
