Rain and Snowfall Disrupt Life in Kashmir, Waterlogging in Many Areas

Srinagar, For the second consecutive day, the Kashmir Valley was beset by moderate rainfall and light snowfall in higher reaches, disrupting daily life and prompting a dip in temperatures, as per local authorities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the inclement weather has led to widespread waterlogging in low-lying areas of Srinagar and other parts of the valley, complicating daily activities for residents. Local officials noted the adverse impact on both locals and tourists, who were forced to don warmer attire against the unseasonal chill.

“The weather conditions are expected to see a temporary improvement with a reduction in precipitation starting tonight and into the early morning,” a representative from the Meteorological Centre Srinagar stated. Despite this brief respite, the weather forecast from April 16 to 17 predicts cloudy skies with light rain in isolated places, and from April 18 to 19, the valley might experience light rain and snow over its higher reaches, accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Looking ahead, the weather is anticipated to dry out from April 20 to 25, though occasional afternoon thundershowers remain a possibility.

The Meteorological Department has also advised local farmers to halt farming activities until April 16 due to the ongoing weather disturbances. Additionally, they cautioned that surface transportation over some higher reaches might face temporary disruptions today, urging travelers and tourists to plan their journeys cautiously to avoid areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones.

The latest rainfall measurements provided by the MeT office indicate significant precipitation across the region: Srinagar recorded 27.6mm, Qazigund 41.4mm, Pahalgam 22.2mm, Kupwara 28.5mm, Kokernag 23.2mm, and Gulmarg 39.8mm over the past 24 hours.
