Repair work at Malir Bridge causing severe disruption in flow of traffic: Usman Ahmad

Karachi, April 15, 2013 (PPI-OT): Mr. Usman Ahmed President, Bin Qasim Association of Trade & Industry, BQATI in a press release expressed their concern over sever traffic jam due repairing work at Malir Bridge which are source of great concern and anxiety to the trade & industry and staff / foreigners working at Bin Qasim Industrial area which they are facing on daily basis especially during morning & evening hours, while travelling to Port Qasim via National Highway and back to city, facing traffic congestion and severe traffic jams which has become a routine matter.

He said that the National highway from Malir bridge to Port Qasim More is under great pressure of traffic as the transport heading toward city and upcountry, Port Qasim, Port Industrial Zone, Steel Mill, Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and other industries situated in Bin Qasim Zone used to pass through this road, which in fact has been turned into a narrow street.

Looting and snatching incident at key point during traffic gridlock has created lot of panic, especially among foreign engineers and technical staff working in Bin Qasim Industrial Zone, these events have reemphasized the need to implement strict and additional security measures to minimize the risk of criminal activities in the area and improve traffic situation during sensitive hours.

Mian Muhammed Ahmed, Patron In-chief & Founder President of Bin Qasim Association of Trade & Industry also showed his concern and briefed that at the time when industrial production needs to be boosted up to help the economy, incidents like these will act as serious deterrent to local and foreign investors.

BQATI observed that the area traffic police miserably failed to regulate traffic manually and chaos like situation prevail at Malir, Quaidabad, Manzil Pump, Under Quaidabad Bridge both sides, Dawood Chowrangi Bridge and other link roads where traffic jams is routine matter now the situation has worsened and need to be look after during sensitive hours.

Vice President BQATI Mr. Abdul Rasheed Jan Mohammed said that the industrial investment is very active in Bin Qasim Industrial Zone, many industries established under Joint Ventures and have brought Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) therefore, it will be a matter of encouragement for all the Industrialists to have smooth flow of traffic in this important area.

He also stated that the alternate route should have been notified before taking such a major work and time line should have been give, further such work should only be carried out on Saturdays and Sundays.

BQATI appealed to the concerned authority to please look into this chaos like situation and instruct the concerned department to expedite the repairing work of joints and heavy traffic should be restricted during sensitive hours or in alternate repairing work could be done during silent hour so the traffic flow could be maintained during sensitive hours.
