Islamabad: Since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2014, India has experienced a significant surge in Hindutva fascism, affecting various minorities across the nation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, this trend has predominantly impacted Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits, and Christians, with incidents of hate crimes escalating dramatically over the past decade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)—an organization critics compare to Nazi ideologies—has been instrumental in promoting Hindutva, or Hindu nationalism, as a central element of Indian politics. Under Modi’s leadership, the government has enacted several laws that critics say are discriminatory against Muslims and other minority groups.
The implementation of these policies has not only caused domestic turmoil but also raised significant concerns regarding their implications for regional and global stability. International human rights organizations have been urged to intervene to protect the affected communities within India and in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir from the communal and divisive agenda propagated by the RSS-BJP nexus.
Prominent figures such as author Arundhati Roy and journalist Rana Ayyub have voiced severe criticisms of the Modi government’s approach, highlighting the international community’s largely muted response to the human rights violations occurring under this regime. Roy has specifically pointed out the dangers of the government’s actions, which include the bulldozing of Muslim homes and the ghettoization of Muslim communities, warning of the potential for widespread violence and genocide.
The deteriorating situation poses a threat not only to India’s democratic fabric and secular constitution but also to the overall harmony and diversity that have characterized the nation historically. The concern is that without significant changes or international intervention, India could face severe and far-reaching consequences from these policies.
