Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced today that the upcoming SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad is poised to significantly bolster regional cooperation and economic growth. During a media workshop organized by the China Media Group, Tarar emphasized the summit’s role in addressing regional challenges and enhancing economic indicators amidst Pakistan’s improving economic landscape.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar detailed recent economic progress, noting a significant increase in foreign remittances, which have reached $8.8 billion in the last three months, and a 14% boost in IT exports. These developments are part of a broader upward trend in Pakistan’s export sector, attributed to effective governmental reforms, including an increase in the number of tax filers.
The minister also highlighted the pressing regional challenges, particularly the impacts of climate change. Despite Pakistan’s minimal role in global carbon emissions, it remains one of the countries most adversely affected by environmental issues. Tarar called for enhanced regional collaboration to address these challenges, along with the ongoing effects of terrorism that have deeply impacted the nation.
Additionally, Tarar underscored the importance of cultural exchanges and fostering people-to-people connections to strengthen regional relationships further. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to addressing critical issues like Palestine in international forums, showcasing its active role in global diplomacy.
