Senate of Pakistan Passes Resolutions Mourning Ismail Haniyeh and Supporting Kashmir

Islamabad: In a session chaired by Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, the Senate of Pakistan unanimously passed two significant resolutions today at the Parliament House—one mourning the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, killed in Tehran, and another reaffirming support for the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the first resolution, introduced by Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, expressed deep sorrow over Haniyeh’s death and condemned recent Israeli actions, including bombings in Beirut and the killing of 250 civilians in Palestine. It described Israel as evolving into a “terrorist entity” and called for unified action by Muslim nations and the international community to counteract Israeli aggression, particularly urging immediate aid and an end to the siege in Gaza.

The second resolution, moved by Senator Ali Zafar, focused on Kashmir, reiterating Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination as per United Nations Security Council resolutions. It denounced India’s attempts to alter the demography and political dynamics of Indian Occupied Kashmir and rejected any political processes under the Indian Constitution as alternatives to self-determination. The resolution also demanded the release of all Kashmiri political prisoners and the cessation of human rights violations by Indian forces.

The Senate session highlighted both international and regional concerns, aligning Pakistan’s legislative stance with broader Islamic solidarity and its longstanding position on Kashmir. Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam also emphasized the national unity in support of the Kashmir cause, marking the observance of Youm-e-Istehsal across Pakistan. The House is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow evening.
