Senator Raza Rabbani rebuttal to statement of Minister for Information

Karachi, July 31, 2013 (PPI-OT): Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Additional Secretary General, PPPP, has issued the following rebuttal to the statement of Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Federal Minister for Information, published in the national press on 31st July, 2013.Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Federal Minister for Information, has wrongly stated in his statement that I voted during the presidential election for dictator Musharraf. In actual fact the Pakistan People’s Party and myself abstain from the vote in the said presidential elections.

It is also a matter of record that in 2008, I refused to take oath as a federal minister from dictator Musharraf, as the then was the alleged President of Pakistan. Took oath from Musharraf the dictator. It has been wrongly suggested in the said statement that the boycott of the present presidential elections was a mistake.

This boycott was to uphold the constitution and the independence of the Election Commission which has been granted to it through the 18th and 20th Constitutional Amendments. Under the Constitution it is the duty of the Election Commission to announce the date, schedule and hold free and transport elections to the office of the President, which in the instant case was not done. This clarification is issued for the record to keep my democratic credentials above board.
