Seven panchayat members quit in Pulwama

Srinagar, April 20, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, at least seven Panchayat members have resigned in Pulwama district following the killing of a colleague by unknown gunmen on Thursday evening. On Thursday, unknown gunmen shot dead 45-year-old Mohammad Amin Pandith, a PDP Sarpanch, at Gulzarpora village in Awantipora.

Sarpanchs Ghulam Nabi Dar, of Palpora; Mohammad Ayub Mir, Zahid Bagh, Watchi; Panchs Shahzada Begum, Farooq Ahmad Mir, of Rakhi Litter Pulwama; Hameeda Bano; and Mohammad Ramzan Reshi—all associated with PDP—announced their resignation.

The Panchayat members had also put posters in their respective areas announcing their resignation. The posters by the Panchayat members also announced disassociation from pro-India parties. In the past, hundreds of Panchayat members have announced their resignations after being attacked or after attacks on their associates by unknown gunmen.
