Srinagar, July 26, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, several people were injured when Indian armed forces’ personnel used brute force and fired teargas shells on peaceful protesters in Srinagar, Pampore and other areas of the territory.
Clashes erupted between protesters and police and paramilitary forces when people, mostly youth defying curfew and other restrictions took to the streets in Safa Kadal and Kak Sarai areas of Srinagar and protested against the civilian killings. Freedom songs were played on loudspeakers of mosques in Maisuma area. Similar protests were held in Pampore, today. The protesters chanted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. A sit-in was organized by Ummat-e-Islami in Islamabad town against the use of pellet guns on protesters by Indian forces. The troops attacked a locality in Bijbehara town and laid the siege for three hours. The unruly soldiers attacked houses and smashed windowpanes, besides terrifying the inmates.
The authorities continued to impose curfew and other restrictions in the Kashmir Valley on the 18th consecutive day, today, to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the killing spree unleashed by Indian forces in the territory.
Meanwhile, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred four Kashmiri youth in Nawgam area of Kupwara district, today. Indian army claimed that the youth were militants and were killed in an encounter with the troops. One youth was arrested while an Indian soldier was also killed in the area.
As part of protest calendar jointly announced by the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, a complete shutdown will be observed in the occupied territory, tomorrow. The leaders have also given a call for march towards Kulgam.
On the other hand, an Indian Army officer to the rank of Major and member of Indian Army-backed so-called Village Defense Committee committed suicide by shooting themselves with their service rifles in Kulgam and Reasi districts. These incidents of suicide raised the number of such deaths among Indian troops and police personnel to 365 since January 2007.
A large number of people participated in a candle light vigil organised by the Kashmir Concern, UK, in Northampton. Speakers on the occasion condemned the callous attitude of the Indian authorities towards the people of occupied Kashmir.
