Chennai: A disturbing incident at a private school in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, where thirteen girls were sexually assaulted during a fraudulent National Cadet Corps (NCC) camp, has resulted in the arrest of eleven individuals, including the school’s principal and two teachers.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Tamil Nadu Police disclosed that the camp, falsely represented as an NCC event, was organized on the school premises by an outside group that deceived the school management into hosting the event to ostensibly qualify the institution for an NCC unit. Krishnagiri district Superintendent of Police, P. Thangadurai, stated that the school authorities failed to report the abuse to the police, opting instead to conceal the incidents.
The fraudulent three-day camp, which took place in the first week of August, involved 41 participants, including 17 girls. The girls were reportedly taken from the auditorium where they were housed and subjected to abuse. The boys stayed on the ground floor while the girls were on the first floor, with no teachers present overnight to supervise, which facilitated the offenses.
The arrested individuals have been charged under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Furthermore, the Krishnagiri District Child Welfare Committee has taken action against both the school authorities and the camp organizers. Police are also investigating whether the group responsible for this fake camp has organized similar events at other schools.
