Islamabad: Dr. Shafqat Munir, a research fellow at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute and an expert on South Asian affairs, predicted a shift in regional power dynamics during a program on SDTV. He expressed optimism for a strengthened Bangladesh-China-Pakistan alliance following political changes in Bangladesh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr. Shafqat critiqued the former government of Hasina Wajid in Bangladesh, suggesting that her pro-Indian policies and authoritarian approach alienated many Bangladeshis across three generations. He discussed the impact of the recent political uprising in Bangladesh and its implications for regional cooperation, particularly the potential revitalization of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) without Indian dominance.
Dr. Shafqat also mentioned the observed decline in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s influence following India’s 2024 general elections, which he believes had repercussions for Hasina’s stance in Bangladesh. The uprising, supported by the Bangladesh Army, indicated a significant shift away from Indian influence, favoring more balanced regional cooperation.
