Sialkot Chamber of Commerce Hosts Turkish Consul General for Bilateral Business Talks

Sialkot, The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) welcomed H.E. Mr. Durmus Bastug, Consul General, and Mr. Nurettin Demir, Commercial Attaché of the Republic of Turkiye to Pakistan, on March 8, 2024. The visit aimed to foster dialogue with the local business community and explore new avenues for cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye, underlining the commitment of both nations to deepen their economic ties.

According to Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Malik, President of SCCI, stressed the profound historical and cultural connections between Pakistan and Turkiye, advocating for these strong bonds to be harnessed towards mutual economic advancement. He acknowledged the considerable footprint of Turkish enterprises across various Pakistani industries, including energy, finance, and infrastructure, and urged for the facilitation of long-term visas for Pakistani businessmen to encourage more robust bilateral business interactions.

H.E. Mr. Durmus Bastug, in his remarks, recognized the technological prowess of Sialkot’s industrial sector and voiced Turkiye’s eagerness for intensified cooperation across multiple sectors. Highlighting the existing Pakistan-Turkiye Trade in Goods Agreement, he looked forward to identifying new business cooperation and investment avenues. In response to the visa facilitation request from the SCCI President, the Consul General committed to relay the proposal for long-term business visas to the relevant Turkish authorities, aiming to ease the travel process for business figures interested in Turkish markets. He also noted that three-year business visas were currently being issued, a move welcomed by the SCCI members.

The visit underscores a shared vision for leveraging the longstanding Pakistan-Turkiye relationship towards fostering economic growth and unlocking new business potentials between the two countries.
