Sindh to Launch Rs. 120 Billion Jhampir Wind and Solar Hybrid Project

Karachi: In a significant development, Sindh’s Provincial Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, has announced the initiation of the Jhampir Wind and Solar Hybrid Project, aiming to bolster the electricity supply to industries with a more affordable option. The project, valued at Rs. 120 billion, will incorporate 36 wind turbines, each capable of producing 7MW, and is expected to be operational within 15 months.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, the announcement came during a meeting chaired by Minister Shah that included high-level officials such as Tariq Ali Shah (MD TCEB), Imtiaz Ali Shah (MD SEECA), and Saleem Ahmed Sheikh (CEO STDC). The project will generate electricity at a cost of Rs.18.45 per unit, which is considered economical compared to current rates. The meeting detailed plans for rapid initiation, with Minister Shah set to discuss project specifics with the Chief Minister of Sindh later this week.

This strategic initiative aligns with Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s commitment to fulfilling the vision of providing affordable energy, as outlined in Zardari’s manifesto. It is expected to significantly enhance the industrial sector’s efficiency by supplying cost-effective power, thus supporting broader economic growth in the region.
