Sitaram Yechury demands release of all Kashmiri detainees

New Delhi, July 28, 2020 (PPI-OT): The Communist Party of India (CPI-M) chief, Sitaram Yechury has demanded the release of all illegally detained Kashmiris who were arrested after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution on August 5, last year, and were lodged in jails of India and occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Yechury while giving details of the proceedings of the two-day meeting of CPM’s Central Committee said, “This is essential for both combating the pandemic effectively and providing relief to the beleaguered people [of Jammu and Kashmir].”He also pitched for the restoration of full communications and free movement of people in occupied Kashmir.

The CPI-M Central Committee was of the view that the situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir remains critical even after nearly a year of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A and large-scale detention of thousands of people, including all prominent political leaders, and disruption of normal life in the territory.
