Islamabad, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has pledged to strengthen parliamentary relations between Pakistan and Iran, emphasizing the revival of the Parliamentary Friendship Group and encouraging mutual visits by parliamentarians. During discussions with an Iranian Parliamentary Delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mahdi Safari and Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, Sadiq highlighted the deep-rooted ties shared by the two nations, which are founded on common values, culture, religion, and geography.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Speaker expressed his commitment to fostering parliamentary support for cooperation in energy, trade, and business, aiming to leverage the private sectors of both countries for mutual benefit. He outlined several areas for enhanced collaboration, including the management of border markets, increasing the volume of import-export activities, resolving issues related to the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline, and collaborating on the Gwadar-Chahbahar sister port projects.
The meeting also saw the head of the Iranian delegation extending congratulations to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for his election as Speaker and discussing the potential for both countries to expand their cooperation in business, trade, and the energy sector. The discussion also touched upon the importance of resolving issues surrounding the IPP Gas Project amicably and boosting border trade and energy sector cooperation.
This initiative represents a significant step towards bolstering bilateral relations through parliamentary diplomacy, with both sides expressing a keen interest in overcoming challenges and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
