Srinagar-Jammu Highway Shutdown Continues in Kashmir

Srinagar, The crucial Srinagar-Jammu highway in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been closed to traffic for a second day, impacting travel and transport in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Traffic Department has advised against travel on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, citing ongoing maintenance and widening efforts as the reason for the closure. The highway has experienced significant damage due to landslides and shooting stones, particularly in the stretch between Banihal and Ramban.

The announcement made on Saturday extends the highway’s inaccessibility, which is a vital link between the cities of Srinagar and Jammu. The closure is part of efforts to repair and enhance the road infrastructure to prevent future disruptions.

Moreover, the advisory highlights that other key routes in the region, including the Srinagar-Leh highway, Mughal Road, and various connections like Sinthan-Kishtwar, Doda-Chamba, Bandipora-Gurez, and Kupwara-Tangdhar, are also shut due to heavy snowfall. This widespread inaccessibility underscores the transportation challenges faced in the area during adverse weather conditions and infrastructure development activities.
