Srinagar Two Arrested in Kashmir under Public Safety Act

Srinagar, Authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have arrested two individuals, Abdul Rashid Sheikh and Mohammad Akbar Malik, from Baramulla district, subsequently detaining them under the Public Safety Act (PSA), a law often criticized for its stringent provisions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the two arrested persons hail from the Kunzar area of Baramulla district and are currently held at District Jail Udhampur. The police, defending their actions, allege that Sheikh and Malik were engaged in activities against the state.

The use of the PSA, described as draconian by rights activists due to its provisions allowing detention without trial, highlights ongoing concerns regarding civil liberties and the treatment of detainees in the region.
