Sukkur Chamber Hosts FPCCI President Amid Economic Challenges

Karachi: In a significant display of unity and support, the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) hosted a high-profile dinner in honor of Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), President of the Economic Cooperation Organization Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECO-CCI), and Vice President of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI). The event saw a large turnout of prominent business leaders from Sindh, with particular representation from Sukkur, including current and former office bearers of SCCI.

Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the business community, acknowledging that his influence in national macroeconomic policy-making is bolstered by the support and feedback from trade and industry stakeholders across Pakistan.

Mr. Abdul Mohamin Khan, Vice President of FPCCI and Regional Chairman for Sindh, emphasized Mr. Sheikh’s leadership role in addressing challenges faced by Pakistan’s business, industry, and trade sectors. He cited various issues, including taxation policies, trade and shipping challenges, international economic relations, industrial policy formulation, investment impediments, SME challenges, and finance access.

Muhammad Khalid Kakizai, President of SCCI, noted that Mr. Sheikh’s support has been crucial to SCCI’s contributions to the socioeconomic development of the Sukkur region. He highlighted Mr. Sheikh’s responsiveness to SCCI’s input on economic and trade policies, which he communicates effectively to the federal government.

Ameet Kumar, Senior Vice President of SCCI, discussed the collaboration between SCCI and FPCCI in pre-budget and post-budget strategies, focusing on policy advocacy to benefit the provincial economy.

Malik Muhammad Owais Rais, Vice President of SCCI, praised Mr. Abdul Mohamin Khan for being a strong advocate for SCCI within FPCCI, ensuring that Sukkur’s trade and industry community has a voice in federal and provincial ministry discussions.

The event’s speakers collectively honored Mr. S. M. Tanveer, Patron-in-Chief of the United Business Group (UBG), for his vision of a productive, collective, multi-sectoral, research-based, and inclusive approach for Pakistan’s business community, aligning with international best practices in trade policy advocacy.
