Hyderabad: Government school headmasters across Telangana have announced their intention to launch statewide protests unless action is taken against those responsible for the assault on a 60-year-old Dalit headmaster in Ranga Reddy district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the attack, allegedly perpetrated by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, has sparked outrage among Dalit organizations and educators. They view the incident as a direct challenge to dignity and justice within the educational community.
The incident took place on December 21, when headmaster P. Ramulu of a Government High School in Thukkuguda Mandal asked a Class VIII student to recite mathematical tables. The student, who was participating in the Ayyappa Deeksha ritual, later accused Ramulu of kicking him. This allegation spread rapidly through WhatsApp, leading to a mob storming the school. The assailants, dressed in Ayyappa Swamy attire, reportedly manhandled Ramulu, tore his clothes, and forced him to apologize to the student.
Advocate P. Vishnu condemned the incident, describing it as a violation of dignity and demanded that the attackers face charges of attempted murder.
Headmasters throughout the state have expressed their support for Ramulu, highlighting the importance of ensuring the safety and authority of educators. They have called for swift justice and warned of widespread protests if the authorities do not take decisive action.
