UN Urged to Intervene in Kashmir Dispute Amid Rising International Concerns

Islamabad: The unresolved Kashmir dispute continues to challenge global diplomacy, prompting renewed calls for urgent United Nations intervention to address and resolve the ongoing tensions in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Farhan Aziz Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, highlighted the UN’s consistent stance on Kashmir during a recent media briefing. Haq responded to inquiries about the UN’s response to the situation following the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, reaffirming the organization’s advocacy for a resolution that respects the principles of the UN Charter.

Experts on the conflict warn that India’s policies in the region, particularly attempts to change the demographic structure of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, could have severe implications for regional stability and international law. They emphasize the need for the UN to actively uphold Kashmiris’ right to self-determination to prevent further escalation and ensure adherence to global human rights standards.
