Karachi, Top officials from the United Business Group (UBG), including President Zubair Tufail, Chairman (Southern Zone) Khalid Tawab, and Core Committee Member Malik Khuda Bakhsh, have called on Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and the Chief Ministers of Pakistan’s four provinces to prioritize the economy and fulfill promises made to reduce energy tariffs. This move comes amid concerns over the country’s worsening economic conditions, with specific emphasis on the challenges faced by the trade and industry sectors.
According to United Business Group, the UBG leaders met with Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti. During these meetings, they congratulated the newly assumed officeholders and expressed hope that the federal and provincial governments would work collaboratively to bolster the national economy. The business leaders underscored the urgency of consulting with the business community to address economic challenges promptly.
The UBG leaders emphasized the unfulfilled promises from Prime Minister Sharif’s previous tenure regarding the reduction of the energy tariff, which is crucial for the trade and industry sectors. They expressed satisfaction with Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s re-election, recognizing his experience and potential to stabilize the country’s economic situation. However, they also highlighted the current economic downturn, with declining exports and agricultural issues, stressing the need for immediate action to strengthen the economy in collaboration with provincial governments and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
This call to action signals a critical moment for Pakistan’s economic management, urging a collective approach to tackle the challenges faced by businesses and the broader economy. The UBG’s engagement with the country’s leadership aims to foster a conducive environment for economic growth and stability, reflecting the group’s commitment to the national interest.
