New Delhi, In a stark warning, United States Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, has cautioned against crossing the “red line” in bilateral relations between the US and India, amidst investigations into the alleged assassination plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a leader of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ambassador Garcetti highlighted the importance of adhering to legal norms regarding freedom of speech and the legal process for American citizens. His comments come in the context of Khalistani marches and threats issued by Pannun, which have drawn significant attention. Garcetti underscored that any action against an American citizen, including conviction or deportation, must align with US laws.
The ambassador’s remarks were made during an interview where he discussed the ongoing collaboration between New Delhi and Washington to investigate the foiled attempt on Pannun’s life. Pannun had previously made headlines with his threats against Air India operations and the Indian Parliament, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack.
Garcetti’s emphasis on the joint investigative efforts by India and the US reflects the strength and closeness of the bilateral relationship.
