Lahore, The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has inaugurated a Hydel Museum at the Tarbela 4th Extension Hydel Power Station, showcasing a vast collection of vintage equipment and models from various hydropower plants. This museum is aimed at preserving the rich heritage of WAPDA’s hydel power stations and educating the public about the history and mechanics of hydropower generation in Pakistan.
According to Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority, the museum features electro-mechanical equipment and parts from several hydel power stations, including Jabban, Warsak, Tarbela, Renala, Kurrum Garhi, and Chitral. Additionally, visitors to the museum can view a model of the Jabban Hydel Power Station, built in 1937, and a structural model of the Tarbela Dam, highlighting the engineering marvels behind Pakistan’s hydropower infrastructure.
The inauguration ceremony was led by WAPDA’s Member (Power) Jamil Akhtar, with several dignitaries in attendance, including GM Hydel (Development) Ihsanullah, GM (Power) Tarbela Nasrum Min Allah, GM Tarbela Dam Project Anwar Shah, and other key officials from the Tarbela 4th Extension Hydel Power Station. During the ceremony, Jamil Akhtar lauded the establishment of the WAPDA Hydel Museum as a significant step towards celebrating and preserving the authority’s legacy in hydropower development.
