WHO Delegation Meets with FBR Chairman to Discuss Tobacco Taxation and Track and Trace Implementation

Islamabad, In a significant meeting held at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Headquarters today, a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO), including Consultant Mr. Roberto Iglesias and Track and Trace expert Mr. Santiago Carrillo, discussed tobacco taxation and the implementation challenges of the Track and Trace System with FBR Chairman Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana.

According to Federal Board of Revenue, the meeting focused on enhancing the effectiveness of tobacco control measures and addressing the operational hurdles in enforcing the Track and Trace System specifically in the tobacco sector. This system is crucial for curbing the illicit trade of tobacco products, which poses a significant challenge to public health and tax collection.

Member IR (Operations) Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, who was also present at the meeting, contributed to the discussions which aimed at finding viable solutions to strengthen the enforcement mechanisms and ensure compliance within the industry.

The collaboration between WHO and the FBR underscores a shared commitment to bolstering health policy enforcement and regulatory frameworks to combat tobacco-related challenges in Pakistan.
