Zahid Farooq killing: Four witnesses depose before army court

Srinagar, March 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, four more witnesses, including two policemen, have deposed before the General Security Forces Court (GSFC) of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Zahid Farooq killing case.The four witnesses recorded their statements before a bench of five DIGs during the proceedings of GSFC at BSF Battalion Headquarters at Panthachowk. This has taken the number of witnesses who recorded their statements till now to 49.

So far 26 BSF personnel, 3 policeman, 2 forensic experts, 2 horticulture experts and 16 civilians have recorded their statements before the court. One retired BSF man and some civilians are yet to record their statements.

Zahid Farooq, a student of 11th class, was killed near his residence at Nishat in Srinagar when he was fired upon by the BSF troops during 2010 mass uprising. The BSF commandant, RK Birdi, and his sub-ordinate, Lakhwinder Kumar, were found involved in the killing of the 17-year-old student.
