Zong to Launch China-Pakistan Lab for Low-Carbon Innovation

Karachi: Zong, a leading information services company in Pakistan, has announced a strategic initiative to establish the China-Pakistan Low-Carbon Intelligent Manufacturing International Joint Innovation Laboratory at NUCES-FAST University in Islamabad. This development marks a significant milestone in the scientific and technological collaboration between the two countries.

The laboratory will be a collaborative effort involving Zong, Suzhou University of Science and Technology (USTS), Guangzhou Institute of Software Application Technology (GZIS), and NUCES-FAST. The primary objective is to promote scientific research, facilitate knowledge exchange, and drive low-carbon innovation through advanced technologies.

Research under this partnership will initially focus on four key areas: low-carbon and environmental protection using cloud and digital technologies; intelligent construction and manufacturing powered by artificial intelligence and 5G connectivity; clean and renewable energy systems enhanced by big data and smart energy management; and digital applications integrating IoT, AI, and advanced analytics.

The China-Pakistan International Joint Innovation Laboratory will function as a multidisciplinary platform bridging academia and industry. It aims to convert scientific achievements into market-ready solutions and will also focus on developing talent in low-carbon systems and digital technologies. This initiative is aligned with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.

Zong will play a central role as the industrial facilitator, linking academic research with practical enterprise applications. The participating universities and research institutes will contribute their domain expertise and capacity-building efforts.

Dr. Mao Weiliang, Chief Technical Officer at Zong, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it represents a significant step in creating an ecosystem where research meets real-world impact. He highlighted the collaboration’s potential to foster breakthroughs in intelligent manufacturing and digital innovation, including 5G, AI, big data, and cloud computing.

Dr. Aftab Maroof, Rector of NUCES-FAST, remarked on the strength of academia-industry partnerships and the role of universities in shaping Pakistan’s innovation landscape. He noted that engaging students and researchers in applied research would contribute to sustainable industrial development.

The establishment of the laboratory underscores a shared commitment to scientific and technological progress under the Belt and Road framework, supporting Zong’s ongoing pursuit of innovation that bridges industry, research, and sustainability.
