24th Death Anniversary of Esteemed Urdu Poet Qateel Shifai Observed

Lahore: The twenty-fourth death anniversary of the renowned Urdu poet Qateel Shifai was observed on Friday. Qateel Shifai, whose real name was Muhammad Aurangzeb, was born on December 24, 1919, in Haripur. Adopting the pen name Qateel Shifai, he made significant contributions to Urdu literature through his poetry and songs.

According to Radio Pakistan, Qateel Shifai’s literary legacy includes over twenty collections of poetry and more than two thousand songs for films. His work has transcended linguistic barriers, being translated into several languages such as Hindi, Gujarati, English, Russian, and Chinese. This widespread translation of his work highlights the universal appeal and impact of his poetry.

In recognition of his contributions to literature, Qateel Shifai was honored with the Pride of Performance award in 1994. His influence continues to resonate within literary circles and among poetry enthusiasts, even decades after his passing. He died on this day in 2001 in Lahore, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire and influence poets and writers globally.
