A delegation of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan meets Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir

Karachi, April 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP), met with Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chaudhry Abdul Majeed at his office in Islamabad. The delegation was headed by the President of ICAP Mr. Naeem Akhtar Sheikh, FCA.

Mr. Sheikh briefed the PM about the efforts of Institute in the development of economy of the country and significance of its members as very sought after professionals in local and international markets. He further told about the Institute’s endeavor to make chartered accountancy profession more accessible to the students from AJK. For the purpose, Institute, being a non-profit organization, needs support of the AJK government for establishment of ICAP’s office in AJK.

The AJK government was also requested to support Institute in its talent hunt program by funding the education of some very bright students from AJK who don’t have sufficient resources to select chartered accountancy as a career.

Mr. Sheikh also gave Institute’s message in the public interest that government should consider adoption of public sector accounting standard in recording of financial transactions. This will bring transparency, reliability and accountability to government records.

The prime minster was very forthcoming and told the delegation that education in the region is among his top priorities. He assured Mr. Sheikh of his full cooperation in all the matters discussed. He directed his staff to extend full support to the ICAP in its efforts in the AJK. The meeting was also attended by the Secretary Finance (AJK) Mr. Yusuf Khan and Principal Secretary to PM Mr. Fayaz Abbasi.
