AJK Minister Reviews Disaster Management Efforts Following Recent Rains

Muzaffarabad, Chaudhry Aamir Yasin, the Minister for Disaster Management and Civil Defense, visited the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to assess the impact of recent rains and ongoing climate change challenges in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The visit aimed to coordinate responses and enhance the region’s resilience against natural disasters.

According to Press Information Department – Azad Jammu and Kashmir, during his visit, the Minister was briefed by Director of Operations Saeedur Rehman Qureshi on the extensive damage caused by recent weather events and the broader implications of climate change in the area. The briefing also covered issues of encroachment on various water drains, which exacerbate flooding and water management challenges.

The discussions included an overview of the relief and rehabilitation measures implemented by the SDMA during the rains. Minister Yasin expressed his commitment to addressing the logistical challenges faced in supplying relief goods and assured that he would discuss these matters with the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir to secure further support and resources.

The meeting was attended by key disaster management officials, including the Director of Rescue 1122, Deputy Director Administration, Assistant Commissioner Muzaffarabad, Assistant Director Operations, and DRM Officer, highlighting the collaborative efforts underway to strengthen disaster response mechanisms in the region.
