APHC Accuses India of Curtailing Rights in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has charged that India has stripped away fundamental rights from the residents of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), including freedoms of speech and political engagement.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a detailed statement, criticized the New Delhi-controlled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for employing military and police forces to suppress free assembly and expression among Kashmiris. He described the administration’s tactics as a broad use of “brute force and black laws” to intimidate the local population.

Minhas further alleged that the BJP regime is pursuing a Hindutva agenda, aiming to transform the demographic balance of the region from a Muslim majority to a Hindu majority through the establishment of new Hindu settlements. This strategy, he claimed, involves allocating land to Indian forces and constructing new camps and temples, effectively militarizing the area and diminishing the local economy and resources.

The APHC spokesman also highlighted the plight of political detainees held in various jails across India and IIOJK, calling for their immediate release and emphasizing that the spirit of the Kashmiri people remains unbroken despite ongoing repressions.

He urged the international community to intervene and protect the Kashmiris from what he termed “Hindutva fascism,” underscoring a desperate situation where fundamental human rights and freedoms are continually violated.
