Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has expressed profound gratitude towards the government and people of Pakistan for their consistent support of the Kashmiri struggle, particularly on Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, observed annually on August 5 to protest India’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rasheed Minhas praised Pakistan’s role in boosting the morale of the Kashmiri people amid ongoing conflicts. “Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity sends a strong message to the international community, and especially to India, that the Pakistani nation supports Kashmiris in their quest for freedom,” Minhas stated.
The day commemorates the controversial revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status by the Indian government in 2019, which APHC claims aims to change the demographic and cultural landscape of the region. Minhas accused the Indian government, led by the BJP and RSS, of attempting to erase the Muslim character of Kashmir by settling non-locals and promoting a pre-Islamic Hindu civilization.
Illegally detained Hurriyat leader Maulvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani also voiced his appreciation for Pakistan’s support, highlighting the significance of August 5 as a day of grievance for Kashmiris. Irfani criticized the Indian government for transforming Kashmir into what he described as an “open prison” and appealed to international bodies like the United Nations, the European Union, and human rights organizations to intervene.
Irfani emphasized that the changes imposed on August 5, 2019, have only deteriorated the human rights situation in the region, calling for international support to restore Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and preserve their identity, which he described as a matter of existential importance for the Muslim community in Kashmir.
